In addition to the historical collection, the library, the building research archive and the foundation archive also benefit from the generosity of numerous institutions and Bauhaus enthusiasts. And the opening of the Bauhaus Museum Dessau in 2019 would hardly have been possible without the numerous donations. Since then, more than 3,000 objects from over 150 donors have been added.

With the exhibition Bakelite | Glaze | Colour – which is integrated into the permanent collection presentation for one year – the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation would like to thank the donors. Due to the incredible volume of donations, the exhibition has to be limited to donations made since 2019. In addition to a selection of exhibited objects, we offer an additional overview of all donations from the last six years in a digital image gallery. The exhibition illustrates the diverse ways in which they enrich the substance of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation’s collections.

Inextricably linked to the physical existence of the objects and their factual metadata are the diverse personal narratives of the people who entrusted the objects to us. They are unique testimonies to their emotional relationships with the Bauhaus Dessau, both historically and in the present. These narratives are also an essential part of the exhibition and its substance for the future.
