The birthday celebration ‘A Building Takes Centre Stage’ focuses on two historic public events in the history of the Bauhaus: the opening of the Bauhaus building on 4 December 1926 and its reopening in 1976 as a Scientific and Cultural Centre. Through installations, performances, forums and events, the exhibition explores the different geopolitical contexts and historical public spheres surrounding these two events.
The Bauhaus Building and the history of the institution serve as a resonant space for multifaceted and controversial memories. We are creating a space for current debates on the role of cultural institutions, which should serve as forums for diversity, democratic participation and cultural co-production.
