FAQ

Here you will find answers to frequently asked questions about the visit to the Bauhaus buildings. If you have any further questions, you can contact our visitors’ service team on +49 340 6508 – 250 or service@bauhaus-dessau.de.

Of course, we also have answers to questions about private group tours and school formats.

You can easily purchase any of our tickets online or at the ticket offices. As the permanent exhibition at the Bauhaus Museum Dessau can only accommodate a limited number of people, we recommend purchasing tickets online in advance. Due to the limited number of guests in the permanent exhibition, we have introduced tickets with time slot. The duration of the visit to the permanent exhibition is not limited within the opening hours.

Reduced entrance fee: Pupils, students, recipients of ALG I (unemployment benefits), holders of a severely disabled pass, holders of the ARTcard, members of the German National Tourist Guide Association and holders of the Ehrenamtskarte (volunteer card) of the City of Dessau-Roßlau are entitled to a discount.

Free entry: We offer free admission to children and young people up to the age of 18, recipients of Bürgergeld (citizen’s allowance), people accompanying severely disabled persons with the letter “B” on their pass, and members of the following institutions: ICOM, ICOMOS, Deutscher Verband für Kunstgeschichte e. V. (German Association for Art History), Kreis der Freunde des Bauhauses (Friends of the Bauhaus Association), Museumsverband Sachsen-Anhalt (Museums Association of the State of Saxony-Anhalt), International Association of Art (IAA), Deutscher Museumsbund (German Museums Association), Bundesverband Bildender Künstlerinnen und Künstler e. V. (BBK) (German Federal Association of Visual Artists), students of art colleges (see BBK for detailed list), tourist guides in conjunction with a guided tour, teachers (max. two per class) in conjunction with a school format, holders of a valid press card.

Tickets can be exchanged or returned within 14 days of purchase. Our online tickets (Bauhaus Building, Masters’ Houses) are valid for three years. Unfortunately, it is not possible to return or exchange tickets with time slot for the Bauhaus Museum Dessau. In addition, these tickets are only valid for the period booked.

We offer guided tours of the Bauhaus Building, the Masters’ Houses, the Dessau-Törten Housing Estate and the Bauhaus Museum Dessau.

Public guided tours in German and English are offered in all buildings and can be booked online. Individual group tours can also be booked in both languages. Both tour options can only be booked in conjunction with a valid admission ticket. For practical reasons, a maximum number of people is set for the buildings and programmes of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation. A minimum number of participants is not required. The maximum number of people per group is 25. If this number is exceeded, the group will be divided into subgroups. A maximum of two

groups can be booked at the same time.

We have three different offers for students for different classes and age groups. These school formats can take place Tuesdays to Thursdays from 10 am to 2 pm. In connection with a booking of formats or guided tours for students, we grant a maximum of two free places per group reservation for the teachers or supervisors. Additional accompanying persons pay the reduced admission fee.

Free parking spaces are available at the Bauhaus Building.

For the other Bauhaus buildings, please use the public car parks (charges may apply). You can currently use the multi-storey car park of the Rathaus-Center Dessau opposite free of charge for two hours with an admission ticket for the Bauhaus Museum Dessau.

There are four coach parking spaces at the Bauhaus Building and two at the Masters’ Houses. Unfortunately, there are no coach parking spaces at the Bauhaus Museum Dessau. However, buses can park not far from the museum at the Anhalt Theatre Dessau (Friedensplatz). In the Dessau-Törten Housing Estate, buses can park opposite the Houses with Balcony Access.

You can experience the Bauhaus in a very special way by staying in one of the restored rooms in the studio building. You can book single and double rooms. We also offer a historically reconstructed single room.

The Bauhaus Museum Dessau is barrier-free and has been certified according to the criteria of the Reisen für Alle (Travelling for Everyone) project with the “Accessibility tested – barrier-free for people with impaired mobility and wheelchair users, as well as partially barrier-free for people with hearing impairments and for deaf people” seal of approval. Despite this certification,
however, we are still in the middle of the process of becoming a barrier-free, inclusive cultural venue for everyone.

Due to the historic building fabric and conservation restrictions, unfortunately not all historic buildings (Bauhaus Building, Master’s Houses, Konsum Building) are accessible without barriers. We recommend that you contact the visitors’ service before your visit and seek advice on the respective options. You can also find more information on our website.

Unfortunately, dogs and other pets are not permitted in any of the buildings of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation. Assistance dogs (e.g. guide dogs for the blind) are an exception, but proof of this must be presented.

Our museum facilities are open on most public holidays. We are closed on 24, 25 and 26 December and on 31 December and 1 January.

In addition, some buildings go on their annual winter break. The Kiosk and the Konsum Building remain closed from November to February. It is not possible to make a reservation during this period.

For conservation and safety reasons, it is not permitted to enter the exhibition rooms with bulky or wet items such as bags, rucksacks, umbrellas, jackets and coats.

Lockable lockers, group lockers and luggage chests are available for storing items in the basement of the Bauhaus Building and the Bauhaus Museum Dessau.

There are no storage facilities in the Masters’ Houses. Please use the appropriate facilities in the Bauhaus Building.

The Bauhaus Dessau Foundation accepts no liability for items in the cloakrooms or lockers. The loss of a locker key must be reported to the supervisory staff immediately.
