For the 27th Bauhaus Festival on 6 and 7 September 2024, we are looking for musicians (bands, DJs and other musical projects) to present their own reinterpretations of the legendary Bauhaus band on the festival stages.
This year’s Bauhaus Festival will be dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the legendary Bauhaus band. It was an integral part of the history of the historic Bauhaus from Weimar via Dessau to Berlin, and had a major influence on the Bauhaus festivals and the style of dance at this school of modernism in Germany and Europe.
During its early Weimar period (1924 – 1925), the band playfully reinterpreted ethnic music from Eastern Europe and mixed it with elements of Dadaism, Futurism and Jazz. The experimental character was reinforced by playing with self-made instruments. During the Dessau era (1926 – 1932), the band transformed itself into a jazz band and played a key role in shaping the booming jazz culture of the Weimar Republic.
But how would the Bauhaus band play today? What musical innovations and experiments would it drive forward?
Bands, DJs and other musical projects are invited to apply with project descriptions and sound samples for approx. 25-minute performances. The projects submitted should show a recognisable musical engagement with the historic Bauhaus band and the Bauhaus.
The application deadline is 24 May 2024 and the selection will be announced by 31 May 2024.
