Administration Department

The overall aim of the Administration Department is to provide the resources and the best possible support for the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation’s many endeavours to preserve, communicate, and update the heritage of the Bauhaus.

The Administration Department pools and coordinates all functions of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation that keep the multi-faceted organisation running smoothly. The Foundation’s Collection, Curatorial Workshop, Academy, and Building Departments are all responsible for preserving and communicating the Bauhaus heritage. This requires human and financial resources, technical and logistical services, premises and legal advice. A modern organisation cannot function without these basic requirements. The Visitors’ Service and Events Management also belong to the Administration Department.

The managerial office of the Administration Department is responsible for contract management, personnel, and legal matters. It draws up and reviews contracts, recruits personnel, and deals with matters relating to labour law and collective agreements. The office is also in charge of further training and data protection, as well as legal issues concerning copyright, labour law, building law, and foundation law.

The Financial Department draws up and manages the Foundation’s budget, which outlines the financial resources available for each individual project. The Financial Department also coordinates the awarding of public contracts, the acquisition of funding, and the submission of documentation on the use of funds. At the end of the year, the budget statement is prepared and submitted to the Foundation’s supervisory board for examination.

The Property Management Department coordinates all activities related to the maintenance of the buildings and premises. This includes technical systems as well as cleaning, repairs, and maintenance. Storage, transport and the traffic safety of the properties are also handled by this department. The model carpentry workshop is essential for the assembly of exhibitions. The Property Management Department provides technical support for events, and the Foundation’s security officer also belongs to this department.

The Information Technology Department provides technical support for the telephone and data networks, the Internet connection, and the operation of servers and databases. It is also responsible for IT equipment for workplaces and the provision of software. In the event of technical questions and problems, the IT department is there to provide help and advice to employees.

The Visitors’ Service gives competent advice to guests who are planning to visit the Bauhaus sites in Dessau. Here, guests can purchase tickets for the historical buildings and the Bauhaus Museum Dessau, or book guided tours. Tickets are available at the ticket office or online. The Visitors’ Service is also responsible for the museum shops and visitors’ overnight stays in the studio building.

The Administration Department is responsible for Events Management. The Foundation’s special rooms, including the historic auditorium in the Bauhaus Building, can be rented for congresses, seminars, events, or photo shoots. The Events Management team also organises the Foundation’s own events, handling the coordination of all dates, rooms, and conference technology.
