The festival A Building enters the stage commemorates two historic public moments featuring the Bauhaus: the opening of the Bauhaus Building on 4 December 1926 and its reopening in 1976 as the Scientific-Cultural Centre. Through installations, activities, forums and performances, the festival explores the distinct geopolitical contexts and historical public spheres of both events. The Bauhaus Building, along with the institution’s history, becomes a resonance chamber for diverse and at times conflicting memories. We open up space for present-day debates about the role of cultural institutions which strive to be forums of diversity, democratic participation and shared cultural creation.
