Films from various fields were shown to mark the opening of the Bauhaus building in Dessau in 1926: The nature film “The Growth of Crystals”, footage of the “fastest runner in the world” and parts of the film series “How do we live healthily and economically” were shown. László Moholy-Nagy had already curated a similar, interdisciplinary programme for the Bauhaus Week in 1923. What do nature and sports films have to do with documentaries on New Building and new technologies? And what significance does this combination have for the design approaches at the historic Bauhaus?

Vera Lauf, research associate in the Academy Department at the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, will talk about the relationship between the natural sciences, new imaging technologies and design in Moholy-Nagy’s artistic approaches.
