Films on the occasion of the Bauhaus Festival

KIEZ Kino puts you in the right mood for the Bauhaus Festival with various films.

The films “Drei Farben: Blau” (Three Colours: Blue) (1993) by director Krzysztof Kieślowski with leading actress Juliette Binoche and “Swing Kids” (1993) about the young people of swing under National Socialist dictatorship in Germany around 1939.

One highlight is the black-and-white sound film “Der Blaue Engel” (The Blue Angel) (1930) by Josef von Sternberg starring Marlene Dietrich. Dietrich spent several years of her childhood in Dessau and was later in contact with the early Bauhaus and its artistic network.

Few films complement the “Der Blaue Engel” better than the documentary “Weintraubs Syncopators” – Bis ans Ende der Welt” (Weintraub’s Syncopators – To the End of the Earth) (2000) by Jörg Süßenbach and Klaus Sander. Besides the fact that the Weintraubs Syncopators played in the background to Marlene Dietrich and thus wrote film music history, they were also a cult band on the jazz stages of Europe in the 1920s and 1930s – until the emigration forced on them by the National Socialists took them to the end of the earth.
