Gabi Schillig

„Imaginäre Räume / Imaginary Spaces“
Gabi Schillig is fascinated by the women at the Bauhaus and the possibilities and limitations of their artistic evolution. The trained architect set the tone for the start of her project with a statement by Bauhausler Gertrud Arndt: “I actually wanted to become an architect”. Schillig’s project Imaginary Spaces traced the conceivable, the possible, and revealed delicate lines of movement between Arndt’s achievements in the weaving workshop and her dream of architecture. Based on textile patterns and structures, Schillig developed hypothetical spatial concepts that addressed the question of what kind of space and architecture women like Arndt might have come up with, had this path been open.
