10 am – 5 pm
Guided tour Bauhaus, Masters' Houses, Houses with Balcony Access
Guided tours of the Bauhaus in Dessau as a UNESCO World Heritage Site by heritage conservationist Monika Markgraf, research associate for building research and heritage conservation at the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation.
The 1,000 UNESCO natural and cultural heritage sites in 163 nations worldwide have included the Bauhaus sites in Weimar and Dessau. Cultural heritage is regarded as evidence of past cultures and artistic masterpieces, the decay of which would be an immense loss for humanity as a whole. The Bauhaus and its Sites in Weimar and Dessau have been included on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1996. In the year 2017 the UNESCO decided to expand the World Heritage Site to the Houses with Balcony Access in Dessau and the The Former ADGB Trade Union School in Bernau by Hannes Meyer.
UNESCO World Heritage Day 2018 prompts the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation to foster public understanding of the Bauhaus in Dessau in the context of its significance as a World Heritage Site. In guided tours of the Bauhaus building, the Masters’ Houses and the Houses with Balcony Access, the ideational and material heritage is explained to visitors by way of the architecture and its usage.
