Music, dance and the stage

Music, dance and the stage – and a look back at the year of “Substance”

Sat, 2 . 12 . 2017

6 to midnight

The time has come again to celebrate the birthday of the Bauhaus. Music, dance, the stage and debate – this year, the Bauhaus birthday celebrations will reflect the annual theme of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, “Substance”.

The magazine “bauhaus 9” is fresh off the press and packed with stories, interviews and photos. The magazine, its themes and its design, will be presented to the public in the presence of the editors and designers. In conversation with Rolf Kuhn, the first director of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, the history of the institution will be traced back to its beginnings in 1987. Dr. Claudia Perren and the Mayor of Dessau-Roßlau, Peter Kuras, will gratefully receive a gift of a letter of thanks written by Mayor Fritz Hesse, who brought the Bauhaus to Dessau in 1925, from his grandson, Wolf Hesse. Once again, we will look back at the work of recent months.

Just as the inauguration of the Bauhaus Dessau on 4 December 1926 was celebrated with a lavish party, on 2 December 2017 people will also be able to dance the night away. First, a guest appearance by the Anhaltisches Theater with “Staging the Bauhaus VII” will bring an exquisite concert to the stage in the auditorium: Johann Sebastian Bach’s “The Art of Fugue” (excerpts), Iannis Xenakis’s “Akrata for 16 Winds” and Béla Bartók’s “Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta”.

This will be followed by a dance night to the lively sounds of the band Django Lassi with its blend of Klezmer, Balkan beats and swing.
