An oversized robot drummer invites the public to explore sound, digitisation, and DIY tinkering in a playful way. All the noises are produced with the aid of robots using motors and electromagnets. The programmed rhythms set the mechanics of the instrument in motion; the sounds and beats of the robotic instrument are thus produced before the public’s eyes. MR 808 by Moritz Simon Geist is a reminiscence of the first electronic drum computer, the TR808 of the 1980s.
