The human being as a synthesis of organism and mechanism is at the centre of every stage event in Oskar Schlemmer’s work. In his Bauhaus dances, it correlates with the formal stage elements of space, form, colour, light and matter. Ensemble Atemzug associates Bauhaus dances such as the glass, metal, hoop and pole dances with contemporary circus aesthetics and makes Schlemmer’s fascination and vision for the mechanical visible. Recalling Schlemmer’s clown figures, the human in the body finds its way into the performance installations. Atemzug asks what synthesis constitutes today’s human being and how circus art can contribute to a change of perspective on our world.
