Topic: The Dessau Effect: Urban revival, Pavilion interventions, and the Bauhaus legacy
“The Dessau Effect”, a design studio offered by René Davids and Greg Castillo at the University of California, Berkeley, explores the pavilion as a tool for Dessau’s urban regeneration. The city’s planned Bauhaus museum will attract global tourists, but may not improve the community life of local citizens – the downside of the so-called “Bilbao effect.” The “Dessau effect” proposes multiple neighborhood pavilions that reflect the Bauhaus creative legacy and which provide recreational workshops attractive to both visitors and city residents.
